Singa is an association created in February 2012, with the headquarters situated in the centre of Paris. Its name means «thread» or «link», in Lingala, that is, a language that is mainly spoken in Congo. Its main goal is to encourage the creation of spaces and meeting tools, working in particular on exchanges and cooperation between migrants and the French people in favor of social cohesion, cultural improvement, and the creation of jobs.
Singa focuses on resident migrants in the whole region of Ile de France following their activities in terms of business, cultural and sportive projects. Its action is relevant for a large number of migrants, that is 200.000 people with a yearly growth of 10.000. There are many obstacles for migrants to combat against: language misreading and social cultural code, non-existence of social or professional network, absence of accompanying, impossibility to adapt values to competences. Facing this situation, Singa pursues two mains principles. On the one hand, it wants to give the opportunity to migrants to participate to the country economic life. This pass through a specialised accompanying that consider their working life. On the other hand, it wants to change the stigmatizing views on migrants so as strengthen a welcoming society. Rather than engaging in an abstract speech about the ethical necessity to integrate migrants, Singa tries to demonstrate their contribution to the development of French society.
Concretely, the actions made by Singa are composed of: 1. A welcoming project, whereby the association determines if the person fulfills the accompany parameter; 2. An intensive language course: this is a learning process support, in order to complete successfully their projects; 3. A workshop on social-cultural code, since it is important to help migrants to comprehend better the society to facilitate the integration. What are their habits and customs? How to work within the French enterprise world? 4. Help to formation of their professional project. This support facilitates the relations with a network of many employers established by Singa. Business schools and universities collaborate with the supporting projects; 5. Accompanying into financing campaign through crowdfunding platform.
The true force of Singa is the «community» that it constitutes. From the origins, the association has invested on new information technologies and communication (NTIC – internet, socials networks, various applications, etc.) to gather together a multitude of players to help migrants in their cultural and professional integration process. This community is composed by members with different horizons that are more or less active. But Singa, is also a network that includes a hundred members, and over a thousand participants to its associational life (employers, social and solidarity economic players, business school, students, sponsor, migrants, simple citizens, service provider, etc.) as well as sympathizers on Facebook page or Twitter account (over 4000, and this figure grows rapidly).
