The association Voisin Malin, created in October 2010, encourages the access to public services and to social rights for the populations of disadvantaged urban areas. The approach is to mobilise the competences of people in disadvantaged neighborhoods, often not really considered, to improve social links and the relationship with the institutions of place.
Voisin Malin is based on the idea that there is a real incomprehension, or a suspicion, by residents of these areas against institutions and administrations. This phenomenon is amplified by language difficulties, communication and message complexity. The aim is to recreate confidence and comprehension among these key players and the best people to do this are the residents themselves: they can establish a dialogue between peers, with the same level of language and the same preoccupations. The approach consists of a method called “porte-à-porte pédagogique” (door to door pedagogy). The aim is to be in very close contact with residents, to understand their needs, give information, explain a project, and to connect residents to a service or to support them in an approach.
Voisin Malin makes profitable missions on behalf of private enterprises and of local collectives (city hall, local council, council housing offices etc.) present in disadvantaged areas. It also supports the improvement of services to residents, with a better knowledge of their needs and with a more effective dialogue. However, Voisin Malin does not accept all financial support, but only those which produce an added value to the local residents.
Voisin malin is founded on the balance between an economic model that is doing test of its viability, and a social project. The association develops a relationship, in a difficult territory, between institutions and people who feel social rejected. Each stakeholder benefits from the associations’ actions, contributing to general interest. It is important to note the absence of any technological innovation, modern communication system and revolutionary business plans. The Project remains a humane one and it is without doubts the main success key of Voisin malin.
